How to Hem Pants with a Sewing Machine

Do you have trouble finding a pair of pants that are the perfect length? Save yourself the time and cost of taking them somewhere and learn how to do it yourself. No sewing experience required! Sewing machines and materials will be provided. 

In this class you will:
1. Learn the basics of using our sewing machines. 
2. Practice hemming on a pair of pants we provide. 

If time allows, you may be able to hem your own pants (bring your own thread) or, we can schedule a time for you to come back and use a sewing machine.

Fan Fest 2018

Join us for FPLD Fan Fest, a day of fun, trivia, art, and raffles! Comics, prints, merchandise, and original art will be available for purchase in Artists' Alley and various merchandise will be raffled off throughout the day. Get lightsaber training and take pictures with the Chicago Jedi. Hear music performed by pianist Chris Valera. Kids in grades 3-5 can attend a Jedi Drawing Workshop. Artists' Alley @ FPLD Fan Fest

An array of Chicago-area artists will showcase their work. From prints and original art to accessories and comics, all will be available to purchase. Frankfort's favorite comic shop, Amazing Fantasy Books & Comics, will also have a variety of items for fans of all ages.

We will have returning artists Trevor Mueller and Steve Palenica, as well as? Adam Fotos, Becca Farrow, Catherine & Sarah Satrun, Luke Daab, Connie Faye, Amber Robinson, and the guys from Unshaven Comics. Vendors include I Sew Made This and Owl Post Greetings.

Visit different tables to earn entries into our raffle! Raffle prizes include merchandise and prints from various artists, and a small sketch by Jeffrey Brown!

Test your knowledge of the Star Wars universe! Register as an individual, a small group, or a team of up to 5 people. Individuals and small groups will be assigned to teams, and the winning team will win passes to C2E2 for Sunday, April 8, 2018. For adults and teens age 13+. Register online or call 815-534-6173.

Trivia Rules:
Contest starts promptly at 11 am. Doors open at 10:30 am.
Suggested team size is 5 people. Individuals and smaller groups will be assigned to teams.
Team number/name and answers to all questions must be written on the answer sheet handed out with each round.
There will be three rounds of live trivia.
There will also be sheets of trivia questions that teams will work on at their tables between rounds.  
No cell phones, laptops, tablets, electronic equipment, books, etc. may be used to obtain answers.
A tie-breaker will be used if necessary.
All decisions by the judges are final.

This month we will discuss The Kind Worth Killing by Peter Swanson. Ted Severson meets Lily Kintner while waiting for a flight. After a few too many, he confesses that his wife is cheating on him and he has thought of killing her. Lily agrees and says some people are "the kind worth killing." She offers to help.

Kathy's yoga journey began when she was "reacquainted with an old and very dear friend" during a local morning yoga class in 1998.  She enrolled in teacher training immediately after that *first* class, earning a Level 2 certification from Temple of Kriya Yoga (Chicago).  Kathy's studies have continued here in the U.S. and abroad in India. After two decades of teaching, she describes it as  "a joy EVER, job NEVER!"

Orizomegami Paper Workshop

Join artist Pam Martinez for a 2 hour introduction to Orizomegami, the ancient Japanese art of decorating papers by folding them into geometric shapes and dipping them into pools of natural dyes. After sharing a brief history of the art form, Pam will introduce 4 basic paper folds. Participants will then experiment with creations resulting in beautiful papers that can be used for bookbinding, envelope lining, gift-wrapping, framing, gift-giving and more! Pamela Martinez has been teaching, studying, displaying and practicing paper art techniques for over ten years and is a member of the Sumi-E Society.
